Compact Flash (CF) and Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) memory cards for DSLR cameras. When shooting high definition video on newer DSLR cameras like the Canon 7D and Canon 1D Mk VI, the data transfer rate becomes more important. Older, slower cards cannot keep up with the transfer rate necessary for 1080P or 720P high definition video.
Canon recommends UDMA-compliant CF cards.
Canon Video Recording Time
The Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, 7D, and 5D, will record movies up to 4GB per clip or a maximum continuous movie capture time of 29 minutes and 59 seconds, whichever comes first. Depending on the level of detail in the scene, each 4GB clip will be approximately 12 minutes at full HD resolution or approximately 24 minutes in standard definition. Times will vary depending on the subject matter because of H.264 compression.
